BENEFICIARIES PROFILE:

Description

The Kokna, Warli, Mahadev Koli, Katkari and Thakur Adivasi/Tribal Clans that live in the hill country of Nashik District struggle to earn a living on small and marginal landholdings with declining soil fertility and water resources. Natural resources on which they depend need enhancement for productivity.

Adivasi/Tribal Women of these hill dwelling communities are active and hardworking participants in their community occupations to make a living from forest, soil and water resources barely available to them and in danger of declining further. They are the worst affected in terms of climate change because they are a dryland farming community, which is dependent on rainfed agriculture alone. Due to this phenomenon migration in the proposed project area is huge, looking for jobs in nearby cities and often living in sub-standard conditions.

If Adivasi/Tribal Women are shown more sustainable, climate resilient and nature friendly ways of agricultural production, livestock management, indigenous health practices, forest enhancement and value addition of NTFP, linking with government schemes and social articulateness they will be a key force of Adivasi/Tribal community development.

That is, Rs. 3000 INR. per woman per year and Rs. 250 INR per month. This would mean a reasonable coverage of women from three blocks of Nashik from the point of view of planning and development.
