Brief description of its philosophy, origins and organization:
The Sisters of the Cross manage a social centre known as Janvikas Kendra in the Raigad district in Khopoli. The aim of the centre is to help the poor and marginal tribal people in the district. Their vision is the good of humanity independently of the caste, creed or race for a just human society.

The organization works for the development of several marginal groups such as the tribal people, street children, the advancement of women, and children?s education. To improve literacy, social awareness-raising, self-help, health, the advancement and development of people are part of the mission of the organization.

At present, the organization works for the education and advancement of the women and young people in the district, with support lessons for the boys, vocational training for the girls in sewing, and also with job programmes for the most deprived.

Aims:
* Social, economic, cultural and political advancement of the tribal people in the Raigad district through a self-supporting process of their resources.

The project aims at obtaining the essential rights of the people and the reduction of poverty by contributing to their social, economic and political advancement by means of the improvement of the life quality of the tribal people through developing their aptitudes .

This project aims at constraining migration and enabling children to attend school regularly, as well as to educate people at different levels to encourage their self-esteem and a dignified life.

* The advancement of women (to create and strengthen savings groups)
* Establishment of political awareness and an increase of participation in local governments.
